Where to Hear Iris 2 on Kimbra’s New Album 'Primal Heart'

Every Friday, we’re sharing a newly released song or album from one of our favorite artists and talking with them about how they used an iZotope product on it.

This week we spoke to Timon Martin, who plays guitar and contributes heavily to the writing and production for Kimbra, particularly on her latest record Primal Heart (out 4/20 on Warner Bros.). Martin took a break from their busy tour to outline how they used Iris 2:

"We used Iris 2 a lot on the new Kimbra album. It's our favorite sample-based synth and gives us the ability to tailor sounds in a super creative and functional way. Most of the bass in "The Good War" is a tweaked Iris 2 preset, as is the verse's distorted synth that leads into the chorus. In "Black Sky," you can hear it in the staccato synth that's playing 8th notes throughout the verses. And in "Everybody Knows," it was used to create the 3 over 4 synth that comes in verse 2 and continues into chorus 2. We love the fact that with Iris 2 we can create almost any sound imaginable, and every patch we make ends up very unique."
